Default Guild Wars troubles

Hello, I'm new here and this is my first thread.

I'm writing because of some problems having with guild wars. On the last week I wasn't able to log in because gw can't connect to arenanet. When I double-click the gw.exe, it will open the usual window but won't load anything. I've tried to wait, but no matter. I tried to restore my .dat and uninstall/reinstall all the game but nothing.

And I've not finished, now the best part: I can't even connect to the gw's official site (www.guildwars.com) and the wiki (gww). This is unbelievable and I don't know if these two problems are related.

I've made some attempts, turning off my firewall, opening guild wars' tcp/udp, disabling my antivirus and even restoring my system to a previous state. But nothing again.

This is weird cause I've played gw for more than three years and this is the first time I have a problem. Please let me know if you've ever had the same mess or if you know any solution.

Thank you in advance

Try the firewall on your router, or look into the Windows "hosts" (just google about it) file and make sure all it says is "127.0.0.1 localhost", nothing else.

I just dealt with a problem very similar to this. I play GW from two different locations on two different ISP's. One worked fine, while the other wouldn't connect to anything NCSoft related. Contacted the ISP with the issue and they said that NCSoft had banned a whole subnet and I was in it. ISP ended up helping me fix it.

So if you're getting that red message pop up on the GW load screen, and you can't access GW website, you should contact your ISP.

Woww. They banned a whole subnet? Did the ISP provider know why? This would be very interesting to look into...

Check this out. Looks like the same problem I've experienced last week.

EDIT

Could this have something to do with the mass-ban in Aion?

Thank you all guys

First of all I checked what Bob said to me and all seems to work fine. Then I tried again to connect to any ncsoft related page but they didn't work. So I've managed the problems through the solution suggested by Gill. Everything's ok now and I can connect and log in my gw.

Now I don't know if I should keep these dns' settings for a long time and if them could bother in some way my internet connection, but I will try later (maybe a few days) to switch back my old settings and connect again.

Thanks a lot again and good game!

Yea the ISP dudes switched my DNS as well. The ban was placed by NCSoft because of gold sellers on several games that were "in the area" of my house. That's all the ISP would say. But hey, they fixed it

I've been using Google open DNS lately and I'm happy with it, so I'm keeping it anyway.

Looks like the problem you were experiencing was fixed tough, so, you can revert back if you like. Up to you.

You might want to read this about performance benefits.
